About Me
I do this work because…
I’ve struggled with the same things that my clients do and I feel called to work with others as they navigate their struggles. I know what it is like to struggle in life and in relationships. And I also know what it is like to do the work on myself and on my relationships, and I value that work.
I have a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling and am a nationally certified counselor. I have experience working in residential treatment settings (substance abuse, mental health and homelessness), crisis stabilization services, and group/individual/couples counseling.
I am a queer, able-bodied, white, middle-class, cis-gendered woman. I am aware both of my privilege as well as my identities that are marginalized. And I am aware of these factors for my clients as well. I value and take into account all of a person’s circumstances when treating them. I refuse to stigmatize people by labeling them as “disordered,” as I believe mental health symptoms are often a result of living in an oppressive culture or situation/relationship.
On a Personal Note…
I love the ocean and boogie boarding and spending time outside walking around Macworth Island or enjoying all that is Maine.
I am intrigued by provocative theater and art. And contrastingly, I also love reality television.
I love spending time with my family, friends and my dog, Zanna, who occasionally joins me in the virtual office. She is a Swedish Vallhund/Corgi mix rescue and loves to play, go on walks and lick the kitchen floor incessantly.
That’s my story, but here’s how I work (what really matters to you):
I am compassionate and empathetic.
I am a fierce advocate for my clients - I have their best self and best interest at heart.
I am discerning - I listen to what is beneath what’s being said.
I am direct and I challenge my clients.
I am comfortable sitting with the difficult stuff.
I bring humor to my work.
